Samaritan Outreach Community Garden

“The Hope Garden”

”To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.” – Ghandi

Northeast Neighborhood – 14th and Claymont Streets, Wilmington, DE 19802

Fast Facts
Type: Vegetable & Flower Garden
Coordinator: Myra Holmes
Created: 2002

Started and maintained by employees of Samaritan Outreach, a division of the Ministry of Caring, this community garden yields bountiful harvests that are shared with the organization's less fortunate clients. In the sunny corner lot, a variety of vegetables and herbs are grown in six raised beds. Warming the entrance way are flowering shrubs and perennials to welcome and motivate incomers.

This garden not only brings a sense of community and pride to the neighborhood, it also demonstrates that self-reliance and hard work can bear the fruit of self-sufficiency.

I have a profound respect for those who care for trees, one of Delaware's often forgotten treasures. Keep up the great work!
