HFHG: Part 5 - Deliciously Homegrown with Harold Taylor

Do you love to eat locally grown produce, but feel intimidated to grow it yourself?  Want to start a vegetable garden but don’t know where to begin?  Join Harold Taylor, section gardener in the Idea Garden at Longwood Gardens, for an evening of edible exploration.  Harold will discuss the entire home vegetable gardening topic from planting to harvesting.  Learn when to sow seeds, discover what vegetables are most worth growing, and learn Harold’s secrets on avoiding pest problems. Pre-registration is required.  Sponsored by Delaware Seed & Garden Supply.

Deliciously Homegrown is the last of five lectures in the Help for the Home Gardener Series. Every Wednesday in February, find inspiration and expert advice to make your home environment more attractive and your gardening experience more enjoyable. Light refreshments will be served.

Harold Taylor

Longwood Gardens

Taylor, a graduate of the Longwood Professional Gardener Training Program, is the Section Gardener for Longwood's Idea Garden, specifically working with vegetables, herbs, fruits, and the Compost Demonstration site.  Taylor was named the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture’s Teacher of the Year in 2010 and remains an avid home gardener.

A native of rural Burlington County, New Jersey, Taylor’s  love of gardening  started when he saw a neighbor’s greenhouse. As a teen he began working for local greenhouses, tending the grounds at his family’s church cemetery, and built a greenhouse at home.  Today, Taylor thrives on the day-to-day challenges of figuring out how to produce a garden experience for Longwood guests to enjoy, explore, and learn.
